The Clean Sweep and Kids' Fair in the Marketview Heights neighborhood was a great success and the beginning of a positive and productive tradition and partnership. This program was a true collaborative effort between the University of Rochester, Rural Opportunities, the Marketview Heights Collective Action Project, and the City of Rochester. We had 45 UR students and 7 Marketview Heights residents work side by side to clean up several vacant lots and a park/playground area on Lewis, Scio, Woodward, and Ontario Streets. Several more UR students and Jumpstart members hosted a kids' fair at North Read more...

SUNY Geneseo's Circle K International went to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester again in April. We cooked tacos and brownies for a group of about 50 people. This is a very rewarding and very much appreciated service project. There are also other opportunities at the House just give them a call!
The St. John Fisher Freshmen class created an outreach program to benefit the soon to be displaced students, teachers, and staff of the Wegmans Inner City Catholic Schools, which will close their doors at the end of this school year. We were able to send a group of Fisher students to each of the six schools (Corpus Christi, St. Andrews, St. Monicas, St. Boniface, Holy Rosary, Holy Family) and put on an Easter/St. Patrick's Day party during their after-school program to take their minds off of the closings and show the faculty/staff our appreciation for their hard work. The program included cra Read more...
The Service Floor, along with the Community Service Committee of the Student Senate, led a unique event on March 4th on the Nazareth College Campus. With the help of the campus community, 25 gift bags with needed items were made to be given to the women at the Alternatives for Battered Women. The Nazareth community donated baby items, personal hygiene items, gift bags, clothing, and other supplies. Campus Connection helped us purchase journals for the women. Everyone at the event was extremely excited by the donations. We were fortunate to have a representative from ABW speak at the event Read more...
The Roberts Wesleyan College Students in Free Enterprise team (RWC SIFE) opened a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) Site on Saturday, January 26 as a partner site to the C.A.S.H. program. Project Leader, Kelly Kehoe, and 17 other volunteers prepare income taxes and process Earned Income Credit (EIC) claims for free, serving working, lower income families. The RWC SIFE team serves the public on Wednesdays from 3-8 pm and Saturdays from 9-1 during tax season at the Roberts Wesleyan College Chesbro Center at 7 College Green Drive in room 8. SUNY Geneseo's Circle K International went to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester back in November. We cooked a dinner for a group of about 40 people. The Ronald McDonald House is always a great project that any group can do, big or small.
On Saturday September 29th 2007, over 300 students from the University of Rochester gathered to participate in Be The Change Day, an annual event of volunteering, public service and engaging in one's community that embodies the acts and values spread by Mahatma Gandhi. Starting initially with a humble group of around 15 volunteers the event expanded this year to reach a record-breaking over 300 students. Be the Change Day at the University of Rochester is one of the largest community service events of its kind ever to be put together by the students of this college. On the day of the event we Read more...
One more picture of our gardening crew!
More pictures - thanks for everyone who came out and helped!
Here are a couple pictures that we took at the kickoff. Thanks again to everyone that helped make this a success!
Roberts students joined students from the Rochester area Colleges in the Campus Connection Kickoff event on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at East High School. We were blessed by the day's work, which included painting the boys' locker room and beautifying the Peace Garden, in memory of two former EHS students and a former teacher, who, by the way, happened to be a friend of mine. Through this experience, we saw up close and personal the needs of these kids...truly what they need is caring individuals in the community giving of themselves through deed and prayer. We were touched by this experience and lo Read more...
